VantaPsy DEMO V3.4.0 – Update Log (Character Movement)

VantaPsy DEMO V3.4.0 – Update Log (Character Movement)

Overview

I’ve been working tirelessly to bring proper movement to the game—and it’s finally here! Alongside that, there are a ton of other updates. Honestly, there’s too much to list comprehensively, but I’ll do my best to highlight the major additions and improvements.

🚶 Movement System

The big one. Movement.

The game now has a fully functioning movement system—think standard RPG movement, now built right into Ren’Py. It supports gamepad and keyboard inputs (WASD), lets you interact with objects, trigger cutscenes, random encounters, and everything you’d expect from a proper RPG experience.

This system was custom-built from scratch, as I couldn’t find existing code that did what I needed. That means there might be bugs or quirks, but I’ve done a lot of optimization already. Please test it out and send me your feedback—I want it to feel as natural and responsive as possible.

⚔️ Combat

I can’t even remember all the tweaks I made here—just know there were a lot. Adjusted balancing, added techniques, reworked enemies, tweaked formulas, and did a whole pass to make combat smoother and more readable. There’s still room to improve, but I’m really happy with the direction it's going.

🧠 Python & Class System Overhaul

Previously, a lot of the game logic was handled in raw Ren’Py script. That wasn’t ideal.

Now, the core systems—Party, Abilities, Items, Cards, Compendium entries—have all been rewritten in Python using proper classes and functions. This means better performance, cleaner code, and more flexibility for new features.

If you’re not a dev, just know this was a big backend upgrade that makes everything run smoother.

🎮 UI & UX Improvements

The interface has been redesigned to work better with keyboard and gamepad. Previously, it felt like the game wanted you to use a mouse—and that didn’t sit right with me.

Now, menus feel more intuitive regardless of input method. You can even scroll through lists properly now (Ren’Py doesn’t natively support this, so I had to build my own system). It’s not perfect yet, but it’s a lot better.

👥 Party & Card Screens

These have been reworked for better navigation and usability. For example:

  • You can now preview your party setup when hovering over a character, so you’ll know how the team changes before you confirm a switch.

  • The Card screen has quality-of-life tweaks that make managing your deck way more fluid.

🔄 Hotswap Mechanic

The hotswap feature is back—and way more efficient now. It’s been completely rebuilt thanks to the new class system. You might not notice a huge change on the surface, but trust me, it’s running cleaner than ever.

🎨 Visual Updates

There have been visual overhauls across the board—new character portraits, updated bios, new cut-in scenes, and a complete redesign for Luna-Bright. I actually meant to upload this update earlier, but got pulled into the movement system. Still, lots of visual polish is here now.

Environments are still a work in progress, with many placeholders, but character art is getting close to where I want it.

📖 Dialogue, Lore, and Story Updates

I’ve been reworking VantaPsy’s lore in the background (check the main page for updates). This means some dialogue has changed—some character motivations might shift slightly—but the core plot remains intact.

Expect updated bios, revised dialogue, more choices, and structural worldbuilding changes that make things richer and more connected.

🔔 Notification System

There’s now a notification system!
Pick up an item? Complete a quest? Low on AP in combat? You’ll get a clean, non-intrusive notification instead of a full window popup. It’s one of those small features that makes the experience feel so much better.

📝 Endnote

I just want to say—thank you.

Everyone who’s followed this game so far, your support means the world. VantaPsy is my baby, and I want it to blossom into something meaningful. Not just good—memorable. Something that exceeds expectations.

I’m learning and evolving with each update, and I appreciate your patience as I continue shaping this vision. Chapter 1 is on the way, but in the meantime, I’ll keep improving the demo. Please don’t hesitate to share your feedback—it really helps.

Thank you again.
