Take Back Your Soul

Soulless are vanishing, and a sinister force lurks in the shadows. It’s up to you to uncover the truth and stop the Soul Snatcher before you become the next victim.

Explore Psyches and Gain Allies

With the Chimeric Camera, you dive into the minds of others, helping them confront their fears and rediscover their true selves. Those you help become your allies, aiding in your investigation and battles.

An Urban Fantasy RPG

VantaPsy: Soul Snatcher

blends dungeon crawling with Social Sim mechanics, offering a deep, unfolding mystery, an intricate cast of characters, and hand-crafted, interconnected dungeons.

Combat: Tactical, Reaction-Based Battles

Inspired by Final Fantasy XIII and Persona, VantaPsy: Soul Snatcher features a Reaction-Based Combat system where strategy and adaptability are key.

Telegraphed Enemy Actions

Enemies reveal their next move, but how you respond determines the outcome.

Action Points (AP) System

Every action costs AP, requiring careful decision-making and resource management.

Contested Actions

Both you and the enemy execute moves simultaneously, leading to dynamic clashes with varying results.

Victory isn’t just about raw power—it’s about reading your opponent and knowing when to:

  • Defend to mitigate damage and restore AP.

  • Wait for the right moment to counterattack.

  • Strike relentlessly when the enemy is vulnerable.

Master Strategy with Party Formations

You’re encouraged to swap between Party Member formations, each offering unique strengths and weaknesses. The right formation can mean the difference between survival and defeat.

Weapons, Armor & Preparation

Your choice of weapons and armor directly affects combat effectiveness. Preparation is crucial, but even the best-laid plans must adapt to unpredictable encounters.

Stock & Combine Abilities

Abilities can be stocked for later use, and certain abilities can be combined to create powerful, unique effects—rewarding creative strategy.

The Investigation Board: Unravel the Truth

Mysteries lurk in every shadow, and it’s up to you to piece them together. Throughout the game, you’ll investigate disappearances, uncover secrets, and determine the identity of the Soul Snatcher—or whoever else may be hiding the truth.

Gather Clues & Build Your Case

  • Question Individuals – Extract information, alibis, and testimonies.

  • Gain Insights – Spot contradictions, missing details, and hidden motives.

  • Use the Investigation Board – Arrange evidence, link suspects, and see how everything connects.

Make Your Declaration

Once you’ve gathered enough information, place the suspects in the correct portraits and declare your conclusion—but your companions won’t just accept it blindly. You’ll need to debate your case and prove its validity before moving forward.

Multiple Outcomes, One Truth

Your decisions matter. A wrong assumption could mean accusing the wrong person, missing crucial details, or letting the true culprit slip away. But if your logic holds up, you’ll confront the real perpetrator in a final battle of evidence and deduction.

Expose them, and you win. But what if you were wrong?

Side Quests & The Weight of Your Choices

In VantaPsy: Soul Snatcher, every choice shapes your journey—not just in how the world reacts to you, but in how you grow as a person.

Your Traits Define You

Every action influences your Traits, which directly impact combat, interactions, and how others perceive you.

  • Build Trust or Burn Bridges – Treat people well, and they may stand by you. Push them away, and they may abandon you when you need them most.

  • No Easy Answers – Some characters respect kindness, while others see it as weakness. Being a people-pleaser won’t get you far.

  • Balance Is Key – Thoughtless decisions can lock you out of opportunities or change the course of your story.

Side Quests & Alternate Paths

Side quests aren’t just filler—they shape your fate. The quests you take on (or ignore) influence which endings become available.

But be warned:

  • Time Is Not on Your Side – You’re a Soulless, and you are slowly dying. Every conversation, every action drains your time.

  • Choose Wisely – Mindlessly chasing quests could cost you the chance to uncover deeper truths.

Make every moment count. Your life—and your legacy—depends on it.

Uncovering Lore & The Stories of the Past

There’s more to this world than its people—its history runs deep, tangled in myths, forgotten truths, and unsettling realities. To truly understand the present, you must dig into the past.

The World is Twisted—But Why?

Ancient texts, ruins, and whispers of a bygone age hint at something unnatural lurking beneath reality. The world was not always this way—but what changed? And who remembers?

  • Search for Lost Knowledge – Hidden across the world are remnants of the past: scattered writings, abandoned places, and long-forgotten records.

  • The Truth Lies in Pieces – No single source will give you a clear answer. It’s up to you to connect the fragments and make sense of what came before.

  • Knowledge is Power… and a Burden – The deeper you dig, the more you risk unraveling everything you thought you knew.

History Shapes the Present

Understanding the world’s contorted nature may help you understand its people—why they fear, why they fight, and why some refuse to remember at all.

The past is not just a story. It’s a warning.

VantaPsy Chronology (Lore Book)

This is the entire history of VantaPsy written in prose. It includes multiple short stories and novels that chronicles the entre story of VantaPsy as a whole, leading up to Soul Snatcher (the RPG).

Currently, there are only two stories, Soul Advent and Soul Birth. Once you purchase the book, I'll update it with more stories. Once the full game of Soul Snatcher is out, the book will be included with the game as a bonus. Or you can still purchase it on its own.

Project in Development

VantaPsy: Soul Snatcher is currently in development using Ren’Py. As a solo developer, I have most of the game’s structure and mechanics in place—now focusing on:

  • Expanding enemy variety
  • Developing side quests
  • Refining visual design

Bringing this to life as a full RPG experience takes time, and I appreciate your patience.

DEMO v3

[Important Note: This is a Work-in-Progress Demo]

If you're reading this, the proper demo update is still in development. The current version is based on a previous iteration of the game and does not fully represent the final vision. I'm actively refining the experience, so please be patient as I work toward the definitive update.

This demo offers an Early Access glimpse into VantaPsy: Soul Snatcher, featuring Chapter 0 (Act 1). While some areas and assets are still in progress, the core mechanics and story content are in place.

If something seems off—check for updates!

Is this the End of the Description?

Yes.

Excellent game!!! The gameplay is really good. The only thing I wish was that the characters (done in pixel art) were in the same illustration style as they appear in the dialogue.

Congratulations!

Thanks! I'm working on an update that adds a lot. Including proper character movement. It's taking me a long time to get it right, so please be patient. With regards to the pixel art, I've chosen that style in order to easily draw all the assets for the game. I'm only one person, and I've never made a game before, so I needed an aesthetic that I can easily reproduce and produce on mass

Yes, I imagined it, but for a first video game, it's pretty good. I like that the stats go up or down depending on the answer.
Are you planning on uploading it to Steam?

If I make enough, then I will. It costs R2000 to upload a game on steam (I don't know how much that is in dollars, but that's an absurd amount of money where I live, lol). So if I make enough, then yeah.

Amazing Ren'py work!
